Frequently Asked Questions

The Move Campaign

What are we gaining by undertaking this building project?

Phase 1:

  • Transforming the current gymnasium into a 1,200-seat worship center
  • Transition to two Worship services on Sunday morning
  • Expand building to create a central entrance and connection point on Sundays (our “Main Street”) which will alleviate the current congestion in the halls
  • Adding on a new gymnasium for community and church related events/gatherings
  • Increase parking area by adding 237 additional spaces

Phase 2:

Repurposing the current worship center and surrounding classrooms to:

  • Bring our Student Ministry across the street
  • Add more Adult Sunday School Classrooms
  • Add staff offices to the main building
  • Adding to the building for our growing children’s ministry
  • Repurposing our current children’s wing for our growing pre-school ministry

Who are the building committee members?

Our building committee members are Don Dykes (Chairman), Steve Johnson, Tommy Burleson, Ron Barkley, and David Eversole.

What company will be doing the construction?

Burwil Construction will be the architectural designer and builder of the project. Steve Johnson is the main project manager there and a member of BCCC. Steve serves on the building committee and has served as an Elder at BCCC. The project is in good hands.

How will this campaign and project affect missions long and short term?

BCCC total missions giving in 2025 will be 32% of the budget. The national average is 10%-15%.  With the additional building expense, our missions giving will decrease to 22% of our total budget. We are still well above the national average.

During this building project, more funds will be directed to support our most local mission, BCCC growth of the congregation.

How many services will we have once the project is completed? When will they be?

We will be transitioning to 2 Sunday worship services. This is subject to change, but the plan now is to be at 9:30 and 11:00. This will give us more time between services to transition.

Adult Sunday School classes will be at 8:30, 9:30, and 11:00 giving us 3 times the classroom space!

What happens to the kitchen? Will we continue to have large group meals? Will the kitchen size change?

A kitchen is included in the gym/café area. The size and scope of the kitchen is still being determined by our building committee with input from key players.

What will happen to the old church building both long term and short term?

The old church building currently houses the mission group (IDES) in the basement area. Also, several groups (AA, drug recovery, etc.) meet upstairs during the week. These programs will continue and some may be added.

What is Union’s role in the campaign and what are our plans for that campus?

The campaign at Union will be focused on giving to the church and the funds will stay there, going toward paying the bills at the Union church campus.

Are we going to add any weekday preschool programs, etc.?

The leadership researched adding a daycare-preschool program during the week. The decision has been made to not add any of these programs at this time.

How will the construction affect groups that use our facility and when do we plan to communicate with them?

When construction starts, we will not have access to a gym or kitchen until Phase 1 is completed. We will communicate with the affected groups.

How many new adult classrooms will be added to the building? How many new kids’ classrooms?

We currently have 9 adult Sunday School Classrooms (7 on the main floor and 2 upstairs in the gym area). When both phases are completed, we will have 13 adult classrooms, an addition of 4 adult classrooms. With the completion of Phase 2, the children’s area will have an additional 8,500 sq ft added as well as having use of 50% of the current sanctuary.

How many additional parking spaces will be added?

Phase 1 of the project will add an additional 237 paved spaces for parking in addition to our present 377 spaces. Also, we are contacting TCAT (the state school at the top of the hill) to work out a parking arrangement for the future and possibly use a shuttle to bring worshippers to the front door.

Will there be a kitchen in the children’s area?

There are several items to be worked out by the building team, this is one of those.

Will we still have a playground?

The playground will need to be taken down during construction, but will be reinstalled after construction is completed.

Will there be pews or chairs in the sanctuary?

We will be using chairs for the 800 floor seats in the sanctuary to allow for up to a 20% increase of seating capacity and versatility of the space. The 400 elevated seats in the back will be theater seating.

Where is the baptistry?

The baptistry is the circular area on the right-hand side of the stage.

Will the new gym area be the same size as the old gym?

The new gym is 140 sq ft larger than the original gym, or roughly the same size.

Construction and building aesthetics

Will the steeple remain on the church?

During the concept meetings last October, the designer shared with the group that out of the last 100 churches they had designed, only two had steeples.

Please keep in mind, this building is for those who come after us. Having a steeple will not drive anyone away. Having a Cross on the front of the building will not drive anyone away. Our building team will be working with the design team from Burwil on the building aesthetics. There are several items to be worked out by the building team, this is one of those.

Will the look of the building change?

Yes. The front of the building nearest Boones Creek Road will change. The columns will be removed to present a more modern look for the building. The main entrance will now be on the ‘Cracker Barrel’ side of the building.

Timeline of the Project

  1. Phase 1 will include gym, sanctuary, and Main Street. When we move into the new sanctuary, this will create space to be able to use the old sanctuary area for temporary expansion of the children’s area until Phase 2 is complete.
  2. Phase 1 timeline — With final design, architectural drawings, permits, and a 10 Month construction period, we can expect to be in Phase 1 in 24 months. Fall of 2027.
  3. Phase 2 timeline — Can be completed in an additional 9 months.
  4. If we can do both phases back-to-back, the project can be fully completed in 2 years, 9 months.
  5. During Phase 1 construction, the kitchen and upstairs classrooms will be unavailable. We will need to work out a plan for space and times for the affected classes. Another option may be to temporarily rent trailers to accommodate the situation. During the construction period, our key word will be ‘Flexibility.’
  6. During Phase 2, we will need to move kids and adult classes to different areas as the work progresses. Burwil will work in different sections as much as possible to not upset our normal operation. We will need to work out a plan for space and times for the affected classes. Another option may be to temporarily rent trailers to accommodate the situation. During the construction period, our key word will be ‘Flexibility.’

Where will we eat on Wednesday nights during the 10 months of construction?

The scope of Wednesday night meals during construction will be decreased for a limited time. We are working on a solution.

During the construction period, our key word will be ‘Flexibility.’

Where will the ‘upstairs’ Sunday School classes meet during the construction period?

The times of those classes may need to change during construction. The affected Sunday School classes could possibly meet in an open room during the 11:00 service. After Phase 1 construction, the new gym will be available to use as well. Another option may be to temporarily rent trailers to accommodate the situation. During the construction period, our key word will be ‘Flexibility.’
